Come to the land where men are still men enough to face the pain-in-the-ass of a heater blower failing in the midst of a raging blizzard and you will find various hunks of useless copper windings littering the landscape. I have seen the good, a Chevrolet which merely involves popping the hood (i.e., bonnet) and all of 10 minutes later a new blower motor is in place; the bad, a Vanagon, of course; and the truly ugly, a Volvo 240 which can take 8 hours of the most tortured contortions imaginable, even for an experienced hand. I have heard tell of men who have sold their 240's when confronted with a dealer's estimated cost to replace a heater blower motor. Rich |
