I'll mail this to the list and I have the answer for both.
INTAKE MANIFOLDS:
50 degree kits Best fit with no hammering of the side wall is the SA intake
manifold. Rabbit (A1) and Golf (A2) manifolds require some hammering of the
side wall with the Rabbit intake manifold requiring the least. The 2.0L
cross flow (A3) head and manifold doesn't require any hammering, but it does
require an engine cover modification. Diesels will require no side wall
mods, but will require cover mods due to the height of the injector pump.
The exception to this is the 'JX' TD from Europe.
15 degree kits Best fit is the Rabbit / Audi Fox (A1) intake manifolds as
they have the lowest profile. Golf A2 manifolds will work well, just that
they are about 1" taller than a A1 manifold. A3 manifolds need about 3"
over the A1 manifolds.
EXHAUST MANIFOLDS:
50 degree kits Single outlet works the best as far as an ease of
installation goes. There isn't much room there to make a fancy dual outlet
system at the local muffler shop even though it will perform much better.
The SA kits out there have this and many people who use the Diesel bits have
success with this. The Audi 80 duel outlet exhaust manifold seems to work
the best.
15 degree kits Anything goes as there is lots of room. My favourite is the
Audi 80 dual outlet manifolds.

Can anyone with a VW inline 4 engine in their Vanagon tell me (off list)
which intake manifold they used, the part number and what (if any) mods had
to be made to make it fit? Info from Tiico / Eurospec / other kits needed as
well.
The reason:
While my Vanagon has a recent rebuild engine in it, I'm beginning to plan
for that fateful day when it dies. By compiling a list of intake manifolds
(the key problem that I've heard of) I'm hoping to find the best one that
requires the least modifications.
The result:
Once I get a list put together I'll send it back to the list for all
posterity (maybe this can be added to Vanagon.com?) and it can be used, and
updated, in the future.
