My two cents worth, as an owner/installer:

I thought the installation was easy. I have worked on my own crappy old cars growing up, keeping them barely alive, so I have a little experience. This install was neat and clean, and mostly plug and play. I did have a problem with mounting the power steering pump, but all I did was drill a new hole. I also made up my own exhaust mounts using a vise and hammer. Any questions I had were answered by Peter B. I don't have a big red tool chest or a compressor or air tools, and I did it in my driveway, alone. I just recommend being familiar with engines, read the Bentley for background, and have an open mind! This should not be the first car repair project you ever try, obviously, but if you have experience with car repair it can be fun. And although the power is nice, the reliability of a new engine is comforting. I plan on having my Vanagon for another 250,000 miles.
