If you have the Muir book - "How to keep your VW alive - the guide for the complete idiot" there is a step-by-step guide to STATIC timing the engine. That is, setting the timing with the engine off! Very easy, I'm not a mechanic and I do it all the time. If you need it, I can scan a few pages and send them to you - let me know. Malcolm
