First off, ALL the warning lights should come on when you first start the car. They should then go out within about 5 - 10 seconds.

Next, about your ALT light, the first thing I'd look at is the "brush set". On the back side of the ALT (opposite the belt pulley) there should be a small plate with a round thing in the center held on by 2 phillips screws. This houses the "brushes" that pick up the voltage from the ALT so it can be sent to the battery and wherever else it needs to go. If you pull the screws off and the brushes attached to the inside are very short, you need to get this part replaced. Any decent import parts place that carries Bosch parts should be able to get this for you. It's about $50 last time I priced one, but that's a lot cheaper than a new ALT.
