The MiniDisk is a Magneto-optical format. For recording your own stuff it uses a magnetic format. I use them all the time and love them. There are a lot of folks at concerts sneaking these things in. They have an almost perfect recording all in something smaller than an old Walkman.

There is a distinct lack of pre-recorded MiniDisks in the US. The good part is that blanks are still available in the US and offer much better quality than almost any other media.
