Tim, There's a cable that runs the length of the door from the front latch to the rear latch. If this cable is sticking it may cause your door not to latch properly. Remove your door panel and inspect this cable. The rear slider in my 88 Vanagon Westy gets very hard to open in the winter. It seems like it's stuck somewhere, or that a spring isn't springing as it should. Also, it's harder to get the door to latch correctly. If you don't close it with just the right firmness, the latch doesn't catch. (The door has actually opened a couple of times when I was driving). I've oiled and greased various parts that I could see. But it didn't seem to work. Anybody have any suggestions? Tim T. 88 Westy "Chopper" North Bend, WA |
