Hi John, I have two 83.5 Vanagon's so I feel I can talk a little bit about this. Is the throttle switch properly adjusted? The back switch should engage when you are not touching the gas pedal. You can manually move the throttle in the engine compartment. You can hear the switch click off if you move the throttle lever. You might take off the cable to the tempII sensor???? This might tell the ECU that the engine is cold. This would be for testing only. Does a bad tempII tell the ECU that the engine is warm? The auxillary air bypass may not be working. John >>> John Baker <abusguy2@SPRINGMAIL.COM> 01/08 8:35 AM >>> My 83.5 water cooled Vanagon has developed a problem. When the engine is cold, it will not hold an idle. It idles for a minute then cuts out. When I try to restart it after this happens, it cranks and cranks for a bit then it will finally start (kinda like it's getting no gas or spark). As long as I'm giving it gas, it runs. And once the engine warms up, it idles with no problems. Any ideas?? Please keep in mind that I am primarily an aircooled guy, so when taking about electronics anc computer stuff, please explain to me like I'm a 4 year old ;-)
