Here's what I installed last summer - 5 sheets of: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&PartNumber=268-020&Did=7 Super, super inexpensive and worked extremely well. I cut the sheets into many smaller pieces to fit all the nooks and crannies in the vanagon. Installed it in the rear hatch, in driver and passenger doors (which now go "thunk" rather than "twannnnnnnng" when hit), in the sliding door and over the engine compartment and rear right side (westy cabinet prevents installing on right side). You will also need to get the heavy duty rear hatch supports as the weight of the material causes the rear hatch to automatically close. This stuff is rather heavy. Some comments after installing - yes, the van is substantially quieter. But I used to enjoy going down the road and relaxing - sometimes with radio off and listening to engine go Bzzzzzzzzzzzzz and watching the scenery go by. Now I can hardly hear the engine with the windows closed and need to pay more attention when shifting. Plus, every g*ddamn squeak, rattle, clang, chirp, and buzz from everything like the sink/stove lid, stuff in the cabinets, the rear seat lid, etc now stands out and makes me go a little BATTY after a while. The engine and road noise aren't so bad, but all the squeaks drive me KRAZIE so I now MUST drive with the radio on. ftp://ftp.cottagesoft.com/users/jboldway/quietvw.jpg --------------------------------------------- This message was sent using Endymion MailMan. http://www.endymion.com/products/mailman/ |
