Me thinks the VAG alloy spring seats will be more expensive!

Go to a discount store and get a teflon cutting board - couple of bucks - and use that as a spacer above your factory donut.

Derek, Thanks for the photo of the special 16" alloy spring seats. Would they work for a 1989 Vanagon?

The problem with the rubber "doughnuts" is that they are only about 1/8 inch thick and the junk yards throw them away so you can't find them. The VW dealer wants $18 each and that's absurd.

I'll make mine out of the plastic cutting board and maybe put a piece of rubber scrap in there for traction. What kind of "material" did you propose to put over and under them?
