I usually place the lights on top of the bumper to keep them from getting smashed. Mark the bumper. Then remove it. Install the lights on the bumper. Cut off the excess stud length. Then you can re-install the bumper with no clearance problem.

i am planning on adding more lights to the front of my van as unless it is really dark out i can't even tell they're on...was going to mount them on the bumper, but i have never had the bumper off the van and was wondering how much clearance there is in there between the body and the front of the bumper? and inch or so? was just wondering so i did not buy something that would not fit with out modification...anyone have any brand or light choices that would fit my project? any comments appreciated...
