Subject: Re: Rear Speaker Removal '87 Westy
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

On mine, I remove the intake cover off the rear of the A/C evaporator cabinet and squeeze my arm between the evaporator and the side of the cabinet until I reach the rear of the speaker. If you can find someone to turn the front of the speaker, it will make the removal much easier but it is possible to do it by yourself. It took some contorting, but I could still reach the front of the speaker with my other hand and turn the grill. Once broken loose, they come out pretty easily.

I've searched the archives for help on rear speaker removal, but have found no helpful information. The '87 speakers are held in with screw-on retaining rings. The front speaker removal is no problem because I can reach the retaining ring to keep it from turning, but the rear rings are seemingly inaccessible because of the AC housing. When I turn the speaker, it spins freely because the retaining ring tabs don't bite on anything. I don't want to destroy the speaker housing...
