T, thinks he has garbage in his tank. I think his tank is clean but needs to recyle to confirm. If the key is in the first position is the procedure safe? gary Gary,

have you done this?! It seems a reckless but very direct way to test the tank. I was on the archives a bit today and found some similar experiences to mine written up - all 82 Vanagons like mine - very odd. I belive I will try pressure washing the interior, blowing water back through the fuel outlet then a drying peiod followed by a muriatic acid rince to remove rust. If that lo-tech fails I'm just going shopping for another tank.

Thanks for the suggestion though. In your plan, does the person who turns the ignition key stay with it or run like hell ;-)
