In my college years I had a POS type 2. Yanked out the rear seats, put in 6 inch high density foam pad on the floor, up the the rear wheelwell incline, and over the engine area. It was then covered with H*house red carpeting.

Amazing difference! Womblike! No resonance. So quiet you could converse from the back seat area to the front!

If that level of acoustical insulation could be duplicated with modern materials the vanagon could be as quiet as a diesel Hummer.

Has anyone tryed eliminating the wind noise on a Vanagon? The turbulance in the raingutter/windshield area causes too much noise.
