Sounds like we have quite a split on ages on this list - some real young (to us) in their 20's and those of us on the other end of the spectrum in our 50's and 60's. I obtained my first VW (a 61) in 1963. My second one was a 1967 (new), which I now wish I would have kept. After we married and had chiildren, we bought a 1970 bus and kept it until we bought our second one - our 1985 Vanagon (new). The 1985 probably has about 200,000 miles on it and is now used as an extra car for us. This last summer, we purchased a 1988 Vanagon with Automatic shift, which now has close to 150,000 miles on it. We put on over 20,000 miles since June on this "newer" Vanagon and love it! What other vehicle would you buy with 126,000 miles on it?

For awhile, we said we'd never buy another Volkswagen, and here we are again with two of them. What can I say? Most people think we're crazy - my brother calls it our "hippie" car. They're fun to drive and we use ours for camping, even though we have a motorhome! We actually prefer camping in our van to our motorhome (at this point anyway). I'm now trying to convince my husband to buy a 70's era VW Convertible.
