Its about the same trouble as installing an Inline Engine, except you get less HP with the air cooled. You should be shipping rebuilt 80-83 4 Speed trannys to the US, the freight by boat isn't that much and they go for around 8-900$ here. About two, ten unit shipments and you could do a Subaru conversion on your van. And Fiesta for a month.
