Right, what you are measuring is the distance of travel the piston inside the pump travels before TDC. On turbo engines this is inscreased to give more time for the fuel to burn in the prechamber. Same as when you pull your advance cable. Cold diesel takes longer to burn, so it advances the timing. Jay
