Drive using the slow three second rule. Stay behind the car in front of you by a full slow three seconds ...... no matter what the speed. More if the road is wet or icy. So far as oncomeing vehicles .... no rule except keep in mind that the damn fool in the other car is 100% unpredictable ....... keep a sharp eye out!!!
