I was having AFM trouble, acquired the pigtail harness, still had trouble, and opened up the AFM to move the circuit board so that it was traking in a new location. The circuit board was worn all the way through the "carbon" coating and had cut deeply into the material underneath. I did not have much room for adjustment and the final reglue looked much like your photo. After a year or so I installed a new AFM without the pigtail. Overall the van ran remarkably better to include lower engine temperature(?). Out on the highway I (the van) had an intermittant miss so I put the pigtail back in and it solved the problem. The new AFM was one of the better investments made (and there have been a lot of "investments).
