This guy I bought a van from with this problem actually rigged up a kill switch under the driver's seat. It would not allow the fuel pump to ground when it was open and he would start the van with the switch off (no fuel pump). Then turn the pump on after the van started. It worked. IMHO it is much better to just put in a new Temp II sender and be doen with it. I have these for $30 in stock and it comes with the copper crush ring to install it with.
