Shaggy, my man, if you play this hand right, you probably won't even want to bother with the old van. BEFORE you get that call from the phone company's insurer, get as many listings for overpriced '82 Diesel Westy's as you can find. Think Left Coast internet prices. Remember, you have a RARE and desirable vehicle that will be hard to replace. Then take it to the most venal VW dealer you can find for the body work estimate.

Be cool when the insurer offers you a pittance. Let them know what prices your research has turned up. Don't agree to anything offered during the first call unless it is free sex for life. They will most likely check the validity of your figures and call back with something close.
