Hi Andy, There's a place in Englewood down south of Hampden on Broadway, and I can't remember what it's called, but they work almost exclusively on Vanagons. There's also Wright's German Motors in Arvada--Mr. Wright is a super nice guy and has bailed me out of Vanagon emergencies on more than one occasion. I'm sure there are more, but those are the two real Vanagon shops that I'm familiar with.

As far as finding a good one, just be patient...There are plenty here in Colorado and your perfect one will show up when you least expect it (at least that's been my experience!) I had an '85 GL for about two years, sold it, was miserable, and started hunting. It took me about five months to find another '85 GL that was exactly what I wanted. Have you checked out Autotrader.com? There's some place called JBD Imports in Commerce City that apparently has several synchro westies, and although they seem overpriced, they look good.

Good luck and welcome to the list!

Greetings Everyone,

I just joined up today. I am considering purchasing a Syncro sometime this year and want to learn as much as possible about the Vanagon as I can. I live in and around Denver, CO. I have read about the Vanagon at various sites around the internet, and have seen the pros and cons. I have owned a Karmann Ghia, (sold it) I now have a 1973 Bug in mid restoration, and a 1992 VW GTI, my wife drives the Ford Explorer. I am 29 yrs. old and have a 1 yr. old son, and hopefully more kids in the next several years (the main reason I want to get a Vanagon this year).

I am very interested in information on engine swaps, and anyone's experiences, complaints, etc. with conversions (VW I-4, Subaru, Audi, etc.)

Vanagons are pretty plentiful here in Colorado, and I am going to take my time to find the right one. Does anyone know a good place to contact about finding a good Vanagon? Also is there a particular garage that specializes in Vanagons in Denver or Boulder?

Basically I will take any advice I can get, and all the wisdom I can handle.

Thanks and Happy Motoring,

Andy Denver, CO
