Subject: 85GL Acting Wierd........
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Last week I posted to the list that I couldn't get my van to run, the fuel pump wasn't working. I traced it down to the wire running from the pump to the engine bay; it was grounding on the frame. I put a new wire on and the van started right up and has been fine ever since. Today however, while driving, the van just died. I pulled over to the side of the road and tried to start if again......nothing. I noticed that I couldn't hear the buzz of the fuel pump. I was sure that the new wire couldn't be busted. I ran a wire from the battery directly to the fuel pump and tried to start it. It fired right up for about 1 minute but it had NO POWER and then died again. Over to the side of the road and into the engine bay I went to look for something (I'm not sure what I was looking for cause I really haven't a clue of what I'm doing half the time). Everything looked ok, all connections in place and vacuum lines etc..... I then went to my handy spare parts box. The first thing I noticed was my spare ECU. I thought I'd give it a try cause it takes 2 seconds to install. Put it on, tried the van and it started right up and ran great. It still is running great with the spare ECU. Now here is my question, is this just a freak coincidence that the wire to the pump broke and then shortly after the ECU friend itself? Is there some sort of connection in the ECU that controls the fuel pump??? Also, about a month ago I blew a fuel pump relay. Do you think there is something strange here that I'm overlooking???

thanks, Chad 85GL
