Do the ring and pinions swap? The tranny gear ratios are said to be very close.

The 80-83 air cooled tranny takes 3L of oil while the Diesel tranny takes 4L. To me that means that the cases may be different sizes. Can they just be exchanged and have all the mountings line up?
