I have another question concerning rebuilds. I have heard of so many VW engine rebuilds that I am wondering how long before mine is due. I have a 1984 1.9L WBX that hauls the Westfalia stuff around. It has 80,000 miles and seems to run well and strong -- takes hills nicely, easy cold starts, good mileage(18-20 mpg), dependable. So what are the tell-tale signs of needing a rebuild? Generally in what mileage range do the 1.9L's scream out for major overhauls? Do they creep up slowly or suddenly happen?

Thanks,
