Lots of people. The original VW fix was designed to cure a very specific and not-too-common problem (though it happened to me in Scotland...) where driving at a constant speed and throttle for some period (quite a trick in Scotland!) would start a mechanical oscillation (possibly a resonance in the air column?) of the AFM vane. After a certain period the ECU would diagnose the AFM as crazy and ignore it, at which point throttle response goes out the window, stumble stumble limp. Shutting the ignition off for an instant would reset the ECU and all would be normal until next time.

However the fix also eliminates transients resulting from noisy contact in the AFM, so it makes a general improvement on many Vanagons.
