I use shock cord (bungee cord, elastic cord) to secure the lid on my AFM.  I
welded and riveted tabs to the AFM housing to attach the shockcord around.
In my case I need to open up the AFM flapper completely when I run on
propane - so that there is no restriction.
If I were just running gasoline I would just silicone the lid shut. You
should not need frequent access to the AFM.
