Subject: Gas Tank Vibration
Content-type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

I have discovered that the major source of noise and vibration in my '87 Westy is the gas tank! Driving over tar strips and divider dots initiates a horrid sheet metal vibration.

The sources seem to be: 1) the tab ends of the tank supports where they fit in the slots 2) the supports against the tank (small bumper dots are in place) and 3) the tank seam against the frame. The supports are all tight, but one of them may be slightly bent -- maybe someone put a jack on it. I've used strips of wood to temporarily buffer some of the vibration points, but it is very mickey mouse. Am I missing some tab-end grommets and other noise insulating stuff? I am considering cutting up a tire-tread door mat to use as insulation--other ideas?
