Subject: Purshed 1988 Wolfsburg with electrical problems need help!
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Volks,

I got the 88 today, solid van.....no signs of head leaks, motor spins with a wrench yadda yadda......

Electrical problems have happened and that is how I got the van cheap. Here is what is happening from my own experience now that I have fooled with he van an hour or so.

I put in a fully charged battery. turned the key......motor turned slowwwwwly and I noticed the tach needle jumping about.........so I hook up my battery charger and try again with the charger on...same result, only when I turn the key I can hear that there is a serious drain on the charger......so, I quick test the ignition plug with a jumper wire, not using the key...same result.

Go to the back of the van, note a 205m dizzy installed(is this correct and what cap/rotor should go with it) also noticed ground wire dangling down by the water pump...I noticed that no wire was attached to the side of the dizzy, and hooked this ground that was laying there to it....same result. Checked connection on hall sender...nice and tight.....

One step at a time I have a goal to be driving it within the week...my wife fell in love with the car, and I know of used parts I can get.............just a lot of shitty mechanics before I got it that plug and played and no telling what has been bastardized.

I would have been leery of buying this car if I had not inspected its over all condition..it is choice! Also, the engine bay is very clean, and I can tell it always has been kept that way. I was given a folder with all of its service info...dealer did heads 20k ago, etc.............overall well maintained van that a guy bought and took to the wrong people for service........
