Steve,

You don't mention what size boxer you have but I think most would agree that at 120k miles maybe with new head gaskets yours would give another 3-5 years depending on how many miles that would be. I think with cars that time is the problem and not so much the miles. My 84 gl has only 93k miles but I would not think of taking it too far from home, you never know when a exotic plastic part on a 18 year old van is going to let go. That's why I have a 93 EV-MV to keep my vanagon company in the stable.
