Terminating the shielded O2 sensor wire this way replicates the factory scheme, complete with its shortcomings. A slight, but significant, improvement can be made if about 3/8 inch the outer jacket is first stripped away (without nicking the shield!) then the braid is combed back over the outer jacket. A short piece of shrink tube is applied to finish the end and to hold the braid in place. This method provides somewhat of an eased edge upon which the soft inner conductor insulation can bear and lessens the opportunity for the shield, backed up by that tough outer jacket, to cut through it.
