Rachel, My '82 Diesel has a coolant level circuit, just no sender setup so perhaps that is shorting out on you. The sender near the thermostat is the one that you need to be concerned with.( The other sender has something to do with your glow plugs I think) let me know how it works out, Arthur '82 Vanagon Diesel (the Beast) A BioDiesel project
