Ok, that's from the '83 diesel diagram, 97.43, which I missed. Appears identical to the '83-4 waterboxer. However, if there is in fact no "cool low lvl wrng sw" (IOW those two stainless pins sticking into the expansion tank) then the line coming from pin S of the control unit has to be tied to some fixed voltage or it will permanently sound the alarm. So something is missing from some diagram somewhere -- or else they just didn't install the control unit, which makes plenty sense since I'm sure even VW paid a deutschmark or two for it.

If there *is* a sensor in the expansion tank, short across the plug and/or ground the wire that isn't brown. If the blinking stops, bad ground or dirty sender pins.
