I've found that usually a whirring noise is from the alternator and a clicking noise is from the ignition. Every VW that I've put an after market radio in has had a whirring noise (I've always assumed that VW radios have built in interference filters), so I just add an interference filter in the power lead for the radio (Wal-Mart and Radio Shack have them for less than $15 US). This has always taken care of the problem.

My radio has started picking up the whirring sounds of the engine. Where to look to remedy this problem ? Spark plug wires ? Spark plug caps ? Ground cable somewhere ? This sound was never there until just recently so something somewhere has just gone on the fritz. And, it seems to be getting worse as time goes by. Where to start looking is my question ?

Cheers
