Subject: Bleeding cooling system
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi List,

I spent Saturday bleeding my cooling system on my '84 Westy. At first I was unable to get anything to come out of the radiator bleed screw, so I used Erik V.'s idea of replacing the coupling on the heater hose above the spare with a flush coupling. (Thanks Erik). This allowed me to fill the rad. with water and I was soon able to get coolant from the rad. bleed screw. I then tried the bleeding from the bleed fitting in the engine compartment. All I got was just a little dribble when turning the knob to the open position. My question is should there be a noticeable squirt/spray from this valve? Does it sound like it's operating properly? Should I replace it? Do I even need it? By the way, the reason for all this is my temp gage stays about halfway between the LED and the hot mark.(about 3/4)

Thanks for your ideas.

Leo
