Just letting the engine idle with or without the Marvel will allow the lifter to eventually pump up. The reality here is that you have a bad lifter. When you have the noise, remove the valve covers. Turn the engine to TDC for each cylinder and then check the rockers to find the loose lifter. When found, the lifter can be replaced with along with a 2- piece push rod tube.

Hiya all,

Every now and then, if I let my van sit for a while, she fires up and clacks something awful. I've fixed this before by dumping half the oil and topping off with Marvel and running until the noise subsided. Then I drained all the oil and refilled, replacing the filter at the same time.

My question is this. Is it a bad idea to mix Marvel and Redline? Say half a quart. I run Redline 10w30 in the winter and 20x50 in the summer. I've just never mixed synthetic oil with Marvel before and I'm wary.

Thanks,

Don Preston Seattle, WA '87 Wolfy GL ~Betsy the Mp3 Bus~
