Volks, My euphoria with my 88 Wolfsburg has died for the moment........... I had it running, but the exhaust sounded a little odd, and i figured I better do a compression test to see what i had The good..... 2 and 4 were showing 135 lbs.......the bad 1 and 3 showed 35lbs. So, did leak down test........valves leaking air and so are the rings, big time. So I have no other option but to pull the motor. Of course buying a new rebuild would be the ultimate, but since the van sort of fell into my lap, i do not have the extra $2500 for that lying around, and i refuse to go into debt for it. A buddy has his old 2.1 that was leaking coolant we pulled for his TIICO. I can have it. Here are my plans after looking at prices for parts. New heads or rebuilt from Boston Bob New rings (the pistons and cylinder sets run between $250 and $400 dollars!) New rebuilt rods (BOston Bob of course) Naturally a confirmation of endplay being well within tolerance would occur before i took this approach. Any one been there done that?
