Well, my mechanic (John, 316-838-5576 in Wichita KS) Did a tune up on my '85 Westy. Tune up. Adjust air flow box mixture. replace all small vacuum hoses oli filter and change. rewire power steering sensor and top off fluid. check front end and pack upper right bal joint. Parts 42.50 labour 70.00. great prices - but BAAAAD news - compression: #1 116 #2 147 #3 79 #4 150. Looks like new motor time. He just got in a 2.2 L oversize to replace a 2.1L from a 1987. Motor was fron Quality German Auto and looked like quite a nice rebuild job. Very clean, new heads, most external bolts looked new, etc. Price was right - $1700 for the 2.2 and $1499.00 for a 2.1. Does anybody have experience with these Quality German Auto motors? Please PMAIL me as I'am on vanagon nomail right now - in process of moving. Hope I can ship hippievan and don't need to drive it all the way to Philly PA. Speaking of Philly PA, does anybody know a good mechanic there? --------------------------------------------- This message was sent using Endymion MailMan. http://www.endymion.com/products/mailman/ |
