Hello list, I am installing a Bosch rebuilt Alternator (thanks to Ken at VanAgain.com for great service) in my '90 Westy and since there was a lot of talk recently about proper torque, I have some questions. For tightening the pulley nut, I put a large box wrench on the nut but did the tightening with the torque wrench and Allen key in the end of the shaft. Is the effect the same? For this nut, Bentley on p.27.15 says "starting Feb 1985 37 +/- 7 ft lb". That seems like a lot of leeway, but on the next page, under "Alternator, repairing (90A, Bosch)" down at the bottom it says 30 ft lb. So what's correct? (Yes, I know 37-7=30). Is the torque for the bolt that's threaded into the alternator frame the same as given for the older bolt and nut style, 18 ft lb? There is a second spade type terminal (the first has the suppression condenser attached) (W) sticking out of the back of the alternator. What might this be for and is it hot? I just put an insulated female terminal over it. Thanks, Jerry |
