I noticed the reference and credit to the Ferguson Company on the German tech article on the VW syncro system (on my website) and was particularly interested in the mention of (Maj.) Tony Rolt.
Could he have foreseen that the distant descendants of the Kubelwagens he no doubt saw buzzing around Colditz, would be using a drive system he helped invent?
Name: Tony Rolt Nationality: Great Britain Date of birth: Oct 16, 1918 - Bordon Major A. P. Rolt distinguished himself by attempting to escape from the Colditz Castle prisoner of war camp in Germany during the Second World War. He shared the winning Jaguar with Duncan Hamilton at Le Mans in 1953 and was a regular competitor in Rob Walker's dark blue Formula 2 Connaught from 1953 to 55, although seldom in World Championship events. He had three British Grand Prix outings (1950 in an ERA, then 53 and 55 in the Walker Connaught) but retired in all of them. Subsequently he established FF Developments which specialized in developing the Ferguson four-wheel drive system for road car applications. Seems like quite a chap!
