The name's John, and I wanted to say howdy to the group and introduce myself...although I'm sure I'll be well know before all is said and done. Why is that? Well, I just happen to have a 1980 VW Vanagon L sitting in the driveway. Yet, the engine now sits on my carport, stripped to the block.

I tell ya, it was like opening up the lungs on a 97 year old Lucky Strike smoker. What a shame. I always get the one that was owned by "One of those guys" who consider duct tape and silicon adequate tools for a tune up. Heads are toast too, the valve seat issue ya know. Oh yes, it's the 2.0L Fuel Inj. air-cooled power plant. And yes, for those who are thinking it, it did run when I bought it. Drove it for two weeks...little less power than it should have had, but it ran. I can't for the life of me see how now that I've seen the guts.

Oh well, enough of that. That should sum up what I'm up against. Any and all suggestions welcome...and sarcasm always welcome...of course I have a sense of humor, I bought a VW now didn't I? :)

Looking forward to the wealth of knowledge found in these forums.

Good day and good night.

John Tullier
