Joel,

You could also check for any vacuum leaks. This will makes it run fast. You could spray a little WD40 (or any other similar flammable spray) around the vacuum connections and see if there is a momentary surge in the engine. This will tell you there is a vacumm leak where you sprayed. Especially check the throttle intake boot for leakage.
