Steve, What grade of lock tite should be used. three times I have increased the grade of lock tite the next one I believe is the one above blue? The reason the lock plug (barrel as you termed it) came out was that the retaining screw was not treated with a thread lock compound (ie lok-tite) upon re-assembly. This is really necessary on most VW locks using retaining screws. It's use is standard procedure for any locks I service now.
