An 85 GL has electronic ignition and requires a resistor coil wire. Only 83 and below standard point set ignitions require a solid core coil wire. Many new wire sets of 80-83 wire sets come with a resistor wire (still need the resistor type rotor arm). I've also seen wire sets with a suppressor (junk) in the coil wire. Yes I know I'm crazy!
