List, At risk of offending tom c may I suggest that anyone on the list that uses microsoft outlook or outlook express please make sure that you DO NOT have vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com,the yahoo equivalent or any other address related to the list in your outlook address book. This may prevent the spreading of the virus which often sends these viruses to everyone in the address book. Best thing of course is to switch to a web base e-mail address that does not use outlook and includes virus scans for downloads and is unable to abuse your address book. Sorry for your infection Matthew but tom has gerry well protected these days so my guess is the infection is secondary to gerry which is nearly as clean as a virgin or at least as a madonna. gary Date: Tue, 5 Feb 2002 16:44:13 -0800 From: Matthew Pollard <poll7356@UIDAHO.EDU> Subject: Virus- i'm infected! and may have spread it too! Heads up- i got a virus from someone on this list. It's the lovely nimbda virus... I am not sure who sent it (i have a hunch though) but it infected 1452 files within an hour. I may have passed it along to others too. None of my other machines are infected- just one machine. Sophos Anti Virus cleaned it up. I had all of the recent micros**t security and system patches. I also had the latest sophos IDE's installed. Those 2 measures didn't stop the virus though. cheers matthew
