I used a torch and open end socket (22mm I think). I have seen O2 sensor sockets in the auto parts store. It looks pretty slick, with a slot for the wire and everything.

When I bought my van, someone had actually tack welded the o2 sensor to the exhaust pipe. I assume that they also put anti seize on the threads because I was easily able to break the tack weld and take off the o2 sensor.

But, I forgot to put antiseize on and it was miserable getting it off. I finally used a torch and the correct size open end wrench. I haven't forget to put anti seize on since. And I suppose I should remind people that you have to be careful to not get any antiseize on the sensor of the o2 sensor, I have heard it will foul it up.
