Peter at VolksCafe sells one that cuts in at a lower temperature. He may be able to tell you how to identify them. Try emailing him, website is www.volkscafe.com.

It is possible. When my cat broke up, the chunk of honeycomb would turn sideways, and block outflow under acceleration. You can remove all the material with a screwdriver until your new one comes in. Blockage could cause overheating as well.
