Agreeing with Karl. You are probably seeing doggie toe-nail on your (er,
Phil's) windshield, not scratches.

I've removed similar schmutz from glass with automotive polishing
compound, Dura-Glit, or Nevr Dull.

There shouldn't be o coating on your (uh - Phil's) windshield glass,
except
perhaps some wax from drive-thru car washes.

Unless the nice doggies had stainless steel toenails, or your ex had
their
little paws outfitted with hobnailed boots, they shouldn't have been
able to
scratch the glass.

Try using some EZ-Off oven spray, being careful not to get any on any
paint
or aluminum surfaces.  This will strip off any old wax that may be on
the
windshield, and should take the scratches with it.

DO NOT use those 3M green scratch pads, even a little bit (don't ask).
