Subject: Desperately seek printed foil circuit (update)

First off -- I want to thank all of those who have taken the time to respond to my plea, I must say as a new listee I was very surprised by the number of responses and by the helpfulness of them.... Thanks Again!!!

So prior to my posting to the list, re: New listee -- Desperately seek printed foil circuit -- I had been checking out Ebay to see if there were any clusters up for auction. There was a few but nothing to terribly interesting except for one, I had noticed the sellers name on the list so I thought I would email and inquire about what these clusters usually go for on ebay and if the come up for auction often. (Well not to my surprise the final selling price was way out of my league -- especially when you consider our .63 cent dollar) After a few email back and forth the seller had mention that if it was just the foil he may have a fix for that, another few emails later I had been sent a picture of a foil which included a tach and a price for both. The prospects of this excited me so I eagerly emailed back but heard nothing??? Well.... I thought that there was no time like the present to introduce myself to the listee's and inquire about solution to my problems as I was starting to feel desperate. Wow... the response was great and I did follow up on many of the tips and suggestion, that damn Canadian dollar really makes buying cross-boarder tough to rationalize tho. The best I could find was $40 US for just a foil.... So I'm saying to myself " do I keep searching locally or spend the money and just get the foil from the US -- hummmm -- certainly far cheaper that a blown engine" Well, this morning the doorbell ring and who do I find at the front door? You guessed it the postman !!! The generous listee/ebay seller that I had mentioned earlier had graciously packed up the foil and tach and sent them to me prior to me sending any money for the parts and shipping. Needless to say the foil and attached tach have been installed and everything now works like it should --tach, temp, fuel, leds, and even the clock =) So a many thanks to all, But Especially to the Generous listee/ebay seller. --what a gift --

Thank You.

BTW... the funds are in the mail

Heyas

We've had to park the Jetta and acquire a larger vehicle for our new family (Sam, 12 months old). Naturally the transition into a Vanagon seemed logical having owned many vw's over the last decade. The search didn't extend all to far as the guy across the way happened to have an 85GL that he was willing to part with for what seemed reasonable price. I had a shop check it over and besides some minor wear and tear it seemed descent mechanically. So 1000km later I've reconfigured the heater cable to there appropriate levers, replaced many of the non working dash light and terminated several dangling leads under the dash. By the looks of the not so handy work under the dash I'm surprised that the van hasn't melted down, which brings me to the Instrument cluster -- heheh -- All the idiot lights work but the tach, fuel and temp gauges do not. On further inspection and removal of the instrument cluster it is appears that a previous owner had done some handy work on the printed foil circuit with a soldering iron (looks to be an attempt to repair some areas that had been melted?) I am under the assumption that by solely replacing the foil this would hopefully cure these problems? I have searched my local wreckers and haven't had any luck find a printed foil circuit as I'm sure they go they way of the cluster when parted out -- I did though find many not so necessary parts to help bring the van up to snuff, just not the important ones!

Any help would be Greatly appreciated.
