Remove #1 spark plug. Remove the distributor cap. Put the vehicle in 2nd
gear, push the car forward until #1 is up and the rotor arm is pointing
at your license plate bracket. You can use a coat hanger wire or other
screwdriver or whatever to put into the #1 spark plug hole and rock the
vehicle until it tightens up on the coat hanger wire / screwdriver etc.
You can get very close this way. Your rotor arm should be almost in line
with the notch in your distributor housing. If you want to be precise you
can mark your fan shroud at the notch on your fan and rotate the engine
backwards until #1 is up again and mark that spot on your fan shroud.
Between the two marks in the center is dead top center on #1.
Set your lifters per Boston Bob's recommendations.
